Its a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 drive and according to the info in 'About this Mac' DVD+RW is supported. When I go to burn the disk using either Toast, the in built OS X burning capability, or Disco it gets as far as writing in the lead track then says "Medium Not Supported" . It also occasionally says something about not having enough power for the laser.
