Hi John Move the following files/folders from the top level of your hard drive to the trash :
"System Folder" (NOT "System") Applications (Mac OS 9) Desktop Folder (OS 9) A more in-depth way : http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=2006090904090456 Definitely don't delete the folder called System! Reboot to test then empty trash when you're certain everything's still working. As always when deleting folders, always make sure you've got every document you want to keep stored safely elsewhere.
