You used the phrase "pc".

Aside from a reflex shudder (which I get every morning when I get to work)
the inbuilt Windows Sound recorder is what we use for referal letters to
hospitals for patients.

We doctors record a .wav file, save it to the server, the secretaries suck
it into an Olympus dictation program.

The point is that the .wav files should be editable (to a degree) in akll
sorts of programs, so you may not need a separate program for the recording.
