I once had a problem, verified by phone call to my ISP Zen Internet,  
that the line was dropping and reconnecting on a regular basis (every  
few minutes!).

Ultimately it turned out to be that I had my extension cable plugged  
into the wall socket and then splitter on the end of the extension.  
Zen suggested putting the splitter into the wall socket and the  
extension into that.

Sorted!
