Hi, Depends on how big you want to go, Oracle offer Oracle XE which runs on a Mac, along with a number of tools to help with DB design all free you just need to register (also free). the advantages are that they can be accessed via ODBC or whatever for the client application (MS Access, Excel, Crystal reports, etc...)
