I'd echo Sam's point about ebay RAM, I've had terrible experiences in the
past.

To be honest, I think upgrading the RAM will make little difference. If you
do get Final Cut running on that iMac it's going to be so sluggish as to be
practically unusable, in my honest opinion. I've got a 733mhz G4 tower with
1Gb of RAM in it upstairs and there's no way I'd try to run Final Cut on it.
I think you'll need at least a G5 to get any sort of acceptable performance.
