Tell him that I bought my first iMac in 1990 and I didn't need an idiots guide, just a couple of days playing about with it, and that was in the days of Mac OS9! Seriously, tell him to avoid any of the older guides because they will generally be pretty much out of date as far as the operating system is concerned. He has to make sure he gets one for OSX 10.5 (Leopard) 'cos that's what'll come on a new machine and that's the important bit...
