You probably won't be able to hear the difference between 16 bit audio  
and 24 bit audio, even if your Mac had 24 bit output capability. The  
main reason for using 24 bit audio is so that sound can be recorded  
and stored at a higher resolution than needed so that nothing is lost  
in the mixing process.
