Hi all,

Thanks (so much) to Sam resurrecting my iMac from the dead I've now
been able to play around with Snow Leopard - my iMac died right after
I installed it! And no, the events were unconnected .... I'd even been
checking out new iMac configurations and costs as I had a feeling that
it was going to be unfixable. Well, I won't be going 64bit for a while
then sadly/hopefully, but at least I've saved a pile of cash. For now.

Snow Leopard is faster to do everything and so far, two bugs which
have annoyed me from 10.4 onwards have been fixed:

I don't run as the admin user and so have to Authenticate whenever I
change the applications folder. Previously, at random times, the OS
would fail to bring up the Authenticate dialog and just tell me I
couldn't make the change. It now works every single time. Wonderful.

Secondly, every time I launched Address Book it would tell me that I'd
updated my details and asked if I wanted to notify people. I wrote to
Apple a 2nd time after they still hadn't fixed it in Leopard, but now
it's fixed!

And I got back 25GB after completing the install :-) And it was £22
from those nice people at Cancom. What is there to complain about?
(Well, there's probably something annoying waiting there that I've not
discovered yet, but so far it's a smooth and polished update).

Stephen

P.S. I did have to pay £9.05 to upgrade to V5 of the fabulous
Launchbar admittedly, but that's been the only paid upgrade and it
does offer a LOT more than just Snow Leopard compatibility for my ££
