All, Following some slightly odd behavior (from the Mac, not me) I did a permissions repair on my 24" iMac. While I had Disk Utilities running I also verified the disk. The Volume Header needed minor repairs apparently so I started the Mac from a CD and ran Disk Utilities to repair the disk. This time Disk Utilities reports that the disk is ok and doesn't need repairing. What's going on? Anybody?
