Do you think that computers in people's minds are now in the 'utility'
category like fridges, washing machines and dishwashers? If so it
rather shows that, at least as far as MS-powered systems are concerned
and possibly all variants, they have a long way to go before they can
really be regarded as such.

I don't plug MS products but probably a £30 investment in Win7 might
be the better direction to go in than back to XP for the HP - if you
can find the cheap promo copies that MS seem to be putting in
circulation.

In most cases I suggest RTFM/RTFB to relatives with MS issues and if
that fails then they should go to a PC World tech support desk. Once
they've got over the shock tell them about Macs and OS X - and
spending money wisely!
