Sorry to arrive late to the party, was eating raspberries and watching a bad film.
Things to try would be : Reset SMC : Battery & power disconnected after the Mac is shut down, hold power button for 10 secs, reassemble and reboot Delete the following folder : Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > System Configuration : then restart, then open Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network > change any network details (ie type a 1 in any box) then delete the change, then click on Apply. This should re-write network settings. Then reboot again Install the 10.5.8 combo updater, then repair permissions and reboot again. Failing that, it could be a coincidental failure of the wireless module. I might have a compatible replacement in stock if it's hardware.
