at last, my longest-standing gripe about Macs is gone...

"this disk cannot be ejected because a file is in use"

no it's not. I've checked. I've quit every single application
except the Finder. Shall I quit that too?

"this disk cannot be ejected because a file is in use"

i'll try that again. Let's force-quit the Finder too. Now almost
nothing is running except the OS under the surface.

"this disk cannot be ejected because a file is in use"

I have now wasted 5 minutes and closed many windows I wanted to
keep open to eject this disk. I'll switch off Airport in case a
neighbour has hacked in and has one of my files open.

"this disk cannot be ejected because a file is in use"

but now - hurray - I get the option to force-quit the disk.

very very happy. No doubt it will lead to all kinds of people
corrupting files they forgot they have open.

Don't care.
