The key can be pulled off, but I would not advise it.
Underneath are a couple of small fiddly interlocking flat metal 
cantilevered springs.
It is a job for the expert with the right tools.
It would, no doubt, be done while you wait.
It may be the contact on the printed circuit underneath.
But again, a job for the repair shop in my opinion.
