Try opening the following application :

Macintosh HD > System > Library > CoreServices > KeyboardSetupAssistant

If a window pops up asking you to identify your keyboard, it's  
currently unrecognised and could be the cause of the buttons not  
working. If nothing happens then the keyboard's being recognised  
properly.

Do the volume keys and iTunes remote keys work?
