A related question to my last one. I now have an upgraded MacBook hdd (500GB, thank you Sam) and a 1.5 TB ext HDD for back ups which temporarily will also have a clonable copy until I can get round to getting a suitable extra hdd for the clone.
Which leaves me with a partitioned 500GB HDD which is currently home to TM backups for both iMac and MacBook. (it was partitioned and up and running before I reslused partitioning was unnecessary) I would like to unpartition the current backup drive whilst maintaining the TM files. I assume Disk Utility would sort the partitions but would wipe the drive? If that is the case, can I just copy the back up files to the new 1.5tb drive, reformat the old one and copy the iMac files back again, thus having a permanent connection with the iMac? Will the iMac then recognise the files as belonging to it? The same process then could be used for the MacBook TM files except I wouldn't have to copy them back over of course. Again, does TM automatically recognise the files as being for the MacBook?
