1) <http://www.elgato.com/elgato/int/mainmenu/products/Accessories/Turbo264HD/product2.en.html#mgnlTop>
This speeds up the encoding of various types of video (like EyeTV recordings, iMovie etc) to H264 (ie for iPhone, in effect). I record so little these days I never use it but it will make an older Mac significantly faster and a new mac (like a unibody Macbook) a bit faster (not hugely -- I think it depends on the type of video. The website seems to say that for some it is significantly faster). It's basically a dedicated processor for the task. They seem to go for anything between 40 and 100 quid on ebay at the moment (140 new). Anyone want to give me 60 quid for it inc postage? Otherwise it will go on ebay when there are no others going (that's when they reach 100:-)). 2) I'm also about to sell off an Apple Extreme Airport station so drop me a line if you're interested in one of those. I think I mentioned this recently when I was asking about how to work out exactly which one it is so not expecting interest there... 3) I have a Belkin gizmo that used to power an iPod with 4 AA batteries (on a hard drive iPod, about 10 hours' use. NB does not charge battery, just powers device). It works still -- just that apple have changed the voltages and it doesn't work on the newer devices. It charged my 1st Gen iPhone but not the 3GS, and it doesn't power the Touch, or last two generations of iPods. So if you have an old iPod (I imagine the battery might be going...!) I'll give that to the first person asking rather than chuck it. 4) I also have a little solar panel/battery that also doesn't work on the new iPhone (though it does work on recent iPods.) It's about the same size as the iPhone, can be charged via USB for those rare times it's not blazing sun. A full charge on this is about 2/3rds the charge on the first gen iPhone so it was useful towards the end of a busy day to get me through the evening power-wise but nothing spectacular. 5) I have a Solio charger (<http://www.solio.com/charger/solio-charger-classic.html>) and various cables that go with it (eg to USB, iPod). But note -- either this pnoduct is a dud or there is something wrong with mine (I got it second-hand). I put a new battery in it to no avail, got almost no power from it. It charges from the mains via an old Nokia charger (and when my ex left in the summer, she took mine as well as hers by mistake!). So this is for anyone who has one that works but wants a new internal battery or -- at a push -- just the cables. Again, free to first sensible request (priority for the whole unit rather than cables. If you want the unit and not cables, please tell me). -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Sussex Mac User Group" group.
