IF it's what I'm thinking you are describing, it sounds like the pdf was
corrupted during its creation. It's happened to me on magazine pages from Quark
in the past.

However, don't know what you can do about it other than recreate it, as you
have done.

Not much help other than to say 'you're not alone…'

Subject: [sussex_mug] Scan line on pdf

Does anyone know what the likely causes of scan lines on PDFs are?

We have a magazine on the press which has a 3 pixel deep scan line right across
a four colour picture. The centre row is almost completely white and the rows
either side of that are about 50% of the original colour.

The page was created in InDesign and then exported to PDF.

I have recreated the PDF for that page this morning without any problem at all.

The press was stopped when the minder noticed the scan line but we decided not
to replace the page as there would have been a charge of about £500.

I did check the PDF files before sending to the printer but did not notice the
scan line.

Any suggestions please?

David
