It's not the whole drive just a specific folder in MyDocuments. I sort
of assumed though that any subfolders created in it would have the same
permissions unless otherwise set.

there are very specific permissions that need to be set in all the
System and Library folders to allow the system user access to the right
files. Only ever change your user folder permissions and even then with
caution!
