difficult to describe the iMovieHD window but under the bit with the picture 
and to the right of the stop/start/pause/etc buttons, there should bea pair of 
scissors that toggles with a camera icon. Move the slider to the camera icon.

having said that, I frequently find it doesn't recognise the built-in iSight 
('no camera attached'). I think resetting the power manager sorted that out 
last time it happened to me.

I found that quite a lot -- it's rather annoying...
