well, no, it's the media companies. Apple (like Micrososft) go along with 'respecting' the laws/regions etc. I'm sure their attitidue is that if they keep their noses clean, then someone will find a way round it. But what happens with me with VLC/other regions is that I put the disk in; DVD player says' hey wrong region'. You do nothing at that point except launch VLC. If you ok DVD player, it ejects the disk. Having re-read your message, it appears that VLC did not handle the encryption.
