Hi Gilly Transmit and Dropbox do different things:
Transmit transfers files between your computer and an FTP server set up specifically at the remote site, for example Jonathan Brady uses it to upload images to his client's server Dropbox synchronises a folder between your Mac and an online storage system, it's useful for sharing files with a range of different people and will automatically update files between computers without an FTP server configured. You won't be able to use Dropbox to upload a file to a server other than the DropBox network, how they share it out from there is up to you. If I'm uploading a website to a hosted server I'll use Transmit.
