Based upon the mislaid/leaked iPhone 4 stuff I've seen, the next iPhone is going to be a slightly different shape, and therefore current cases are unlikely to fit properly, if at all. It is possible to buy portable batteries that aren't cases that would obviously work with a new iPhone as well, but they're then something extra that you have to carry around with you as well...
