If I'm unsure what a file is, I rename it with a .txt extension and
then open it in a text editor like TextWrangler. There's usually a few
words or letters around the beginning of the file that give away what
the file actually is. Don't forget to rename it back again afterwards.

Thanks for the suggestion Rob. I tried that but no joy.
Also tried replacing the hyphens with underscores and again no luck.

Just a guess but it might be worth renaming it to something that
doesn't have a space in the file name and then trying again.

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion or can see why a file named
Scan10-09-12 1756.tif won't open.
I have tried Preview, Photoshop (its a scan of a photo), Pixelmator.
I have tried changing the suffix to tiff
No luck so far.
I'd welcome any hints
Thanks
Nick
