happy for this to take place on the list but I feel inclined to reduce the guessing game/make it more helpful by asking for some kind of lead on the price you're expecting. Seen too many of these turn into guessing games for everyone.

It IS helpful to everyone to have it here as it could be a chance to rehearse the merits/weaknesses of particular models (eg the 12" PB) in the current Intel world. I'm also interested in anyone who knows posting about where exactly clearance of old models takes place!

This goes generally for any discussions of second-hand Macs for the list in future.

I'll throw my 2 cents in and say that an older laptop fitted with a SSD drive (64 gigs at crucial is less than 120 quid) is an operational match for an entry-level one now (apart from the reduced capacity on the hard drive, which might not matter anyway if someone doesn't store films etc). Changing hard drives on older machines varies from really difficult to very easy.
