I presume it's a normal 3G and not 3GS. If so I haven't noticed a huge speed improvement over 4.1, and all of the exciting features of 4.2 that I was looking forward to like airplay seem to only be for 3GS and above. So if your still on 3.x and have managed without folders for this long I wouldn't bother. If you have a 3GS then definitely go for it!
