Compressor is part of apple's pro apps suite, so it's included with final cut
pro or logic etc. Its not available as a stand alone, but here's where it gets
grey... It's possible to install it from any final cut disk in the "extras"
folder by setting your computer up as a qmaster distributed node thing. It
installs the nice codecs and stuff but no applications so it doesn't ask for a
licence. But you need a final cut disk in the first place, so I really don't
know if it's "allowed" in the strictest sense (or wether it will output exactly
what you need)

It sounds worth investigating because i believe it's rendering/encoding engine
is stand alone from QuickTime which is what you will find most apps use to do
the work.
