We have been suffering with an intermittent problem lately at work with our external drive (Freecom mobile drive) suddenly unmounting part way through a Time Machine back up.
( PowerPC G5, OSX10.5.8 ) The drive is not plugged in all the time, just a few times each day to carry out a back-up. I thought it may be a cable problem so have tried various cables and have not solved the problem.
