twice during a phone call (less than an hour long) my iPhone crashed and restarted...

is there some general 'servicing' that should be done? I've been turning it on and off once a day or so recently as it (eg) can't find the network for no reason for too long (ten minutes).

I don't really want to erase and reinstall because I have lots of apps whose backups went astray during a disk migration and some are no longer available on the appstore. (or -- how can I extract them from the iPhone again to be in the back-up folder?)
