Virginia,

I assume that your router doesn't have a WPS button and doesn't support WPS. 
These instructions apply;

> the range of the router. When connected, the PC to Extender Connection Status

I would have thought you should be able to do this from the Network System 
preferences - just look for a Network Name of NETGEAR_EXT.

I'm looking at the installation guide that came with the WN2000RPT.

Personally I'd have bought an Airport Express which does the same and more but 
does cost more.
