OK, so the noise hasn't returned, which is good - though it still feels a touch hot...anyway, more importantly, the Dock has vanished. When I look in Activity Monitor it appears briefly, then disappears again, then appears, then disappears. I've tried opening Dock prefs and fiddling with the settings there but no joy so far. I've also re-started several times.
