Ana, perhaps just go and get a coffee or lunch and let the computer/server
synchronise? Once its done the initial sync, individual episodes of syncing
don;t take long and happen in the background anyway. I use Gmail, mostly on
the web, but use Mail too so I have an offline copy of stuff should I need
it (lots of meetings). Given I work at different machines, having the
account set up as IMAP is very helpful. It does mean that if I've not used
the macbook for a few days, the sync takes a while, but its usually only a
couple of minutes at most. The first time I set it up and it was syncing
about 15GB of data took a while though. But its a background task, so it is
possible to get on with stuff while its doing it.

Sam's summary of the differences is to the point. Having made the switch
myself some years ago, I struggle to see why someone would want to choose
POP over IMAP but as Sam says, redoing the account with the wrong password
on purpose will pull up other options including using POP and still allow
you to input the correct password before you commit.

Regards

Russell
