Hi All

My client bought a second hand laptop and asked me to configure it with data
from their iBook. When they mentioned it was bought from CashConverters my
initial reaction was (somewhat jovially) that it was probably stolen. On closer
inspection I found the previous user's name in the Computer Name field of the
System Preferences > Sharing section. I googled the name with "brighton" and
found the company he worked for, called him and asked if he'd recently sold a
laptop to CashConverters.

He was relieved to recover the laptop stolen from his flat and grateful that
the thieves weren't clever enough to wipe all the personally identifiable
information from it.

I explained to my client that £450 for 2nd gen MacBook was a ripoff anyway and
that money would be better spent on something decent. Moral of the story,
always take care when buying 2nd hand goods.

I was expecting a karmic lottery win but it seems I must try harder! I'm off to
buy a cape and some tights.

Regards

Sam
