Hi,

So I did the "hold down the power key and pressing option, then tried to
reinstall Lion and the latest back up from time capsule. It went through
the process for 16 hours but I left it overnight but woke up to it showing
the whirling wheel and the gray startup screen as per when the issue
started.

So I did the same procedure again but chose the reinstall lion thinking
that I would reinstall the back up after but it seems to have stalled on
"to download and restore Mac OSX your computers eligibility will be
verified by Apple" it's been doing this for about an hour now, I'm assuming
that this isn't working either.

So, should I stop this, it seems like it's stuck, maybe I should do a
reinstall from the next newest back up? My thinking being time capsule
backs up whenever anything changes and could have the issue that froze the
Mac within it.

Really would appreciate any suggestions on how I can get the thing
restarted to where it was.

Symptoms before it crashed and I pressed the off button for six seconds:

1. I downloaded and edited a large spreadsheet - over 50,000 lines. I'd
finished this and all seemed well
2 I got a message that the startup disc was full, which was odd as I had
25gb free
3. It then just froze i tried to force quit the OpenOffice and finder but
couldn't get to them as the screen froze - they were showing as not
responding so I hit the off button for 6 secs and it went off
4 I then did the press 'Option and on' switch, then chose restore from the
last back up on time capsule, left it, woke up this morning and it was back
to the whirly wheel and grey screen
5 As I said I'm now trying to reinstall just lion with the intention of
installing a backup later but it's just stuck, for the last hour, on
Verifying with Apple message.

When I do the Option / On thing I also get the repair disc option. Should I
try that?

Tearing my hair out as we leave buenos aires for Colombia this week and I
have so much to do before. Typical.

Thanks in advance for any help proffered.

Michael
