Sam, unsure whether my message got through, but i tried the alt key as you suggested but i get the icon of the hard drive with an arrow below it..on arrow click it just restarts as usual... I downloaded the recovery disk assistant, but got this message -'The recovery HD on this computer is damaged or not present. Recovery Disk Assistant requires a functioning Lion Recovery HD to create an external Lion Recovery.' I had my hard drive replaced 6 months ago, i believe it was cloned from the other one might this be the reason ? and if so what should i do ?... thanks adrian
