Hi John If your iMac's glass has an aluminium border around the edge of the display, replacing the drive's easy. If the glass goes all the way to the edge then you'll need to purchase iMac HD Fan Control to replace the input from the temperature sensor.
There are take-apart guides on ifixit.com, it's a medium difficulty installation I'd say, more time-consuming due to the multiple layers of screws. Definitely use suction cups on the monitor, not a tool to pry them out otherwise you'll damage the aluminium surround. Best to get two large anti-static sleeves to put the glass & screen in or they'll attract dust while you're doing the installation. The last thing you want is to be removing the glass over and over to get rid of dust trapped frustratingly under the glass!
