Thanks Paul, I downloaded Acrobat Reader about a week ago which I think is when the problem started. I have no Internet plug-ins showing in my username Library but some Acrobat ones in my Mac HD Library internet plug-in folder. I have deleted Adobe Acrobat Reader from my Applications folder and all preferences etc associated with it (using Appzapper) but so far have left the Mac HD Library internet plug-ins folder alone.
