Wait.  Plug it in and go to bed. By the morning, it will either have
worked or given up.

I tend to do incremental updates over the air but iOS entire system
updates at the desk top.  I usually "download only" then update once
its downloaded.

I should add I have no special knowledge or expertise but I ave never
had a problem doing it this way. Maybe I'm just lucky.
