Enough access privileges to download iOS 6 fit my wife's iPhone. I've repaired permissions. I've ensured permissions are set to read and write for the iTunes folder on her account. The only thing I can think of that is not quite typical is that for historical reasons her iTunes music folder is in the Shared folder in Users. However we haven't had this problem before.
Any bright ideas please? iMac 3.4ghz intel i7, 4GB mem running 10.8.2.
