They do both come from the same source.  It appears to be that the pdf
books in question are locked as far as any editing or copying of the text
is concerned.  I suspect - from knowing the source - that any request for a
password, also in relation to a problem with a non-PC computer would be met
with a complete lack of sympathy.

Thank you for the suggestion of the unlocking software.  I'm afraid that it
did not work.  I have caved in and downloaded Acrobat.
