Hello all.

Apologies for the usual long preamble but it may prove necessary in this case.

Until this very morning, I was using O2 broadband as I got a discount in
conjunction with them being my iPhone carrier. The O2 broadband provided
Thomson wireless router was set up as the main router providing the internet to
my iMac and allowing me to connect a wireless Canon printer to the network.
Additionally I had two Airport Expresses, one is the newer version supporting
up to 802.11N and connecting to the mains socket via a cable and the other a
slightly older version which plugs directly into the wall socket as in the
product's original design. I used to be able to use both express units to
extend the WiFi network in the house and also had the newer one connected to my
stereo so that I could stream the contents of my iTunes library to it using
AirTunes. The Airport Express units were both always visible in the Airport
utility and their firmware versions were up to date. As a result of Telefonica
selling the O2 Broadband service to Sky, I decided to take up Sky's offer for
broadband, tv, and telephone to former O2 customers. Cue a Sky telephone
engineer arriving this morning to do the necessary installation to switch us to
their fibre-optic broadband. This works brilliantly and blows away the 3Mb
service that we used to average with O2 and whose lack of speed was a reason
for using the Airport Expresses to extend the network. It now runs at ten
times the speed.

However, try as I might, and I have undertaken hard resets on the Airport
Express to this effect, I cannot get Airport Utility to see the Airport Express
units anymore insofar as giving me an option to use them to extend the network
now that the Sky hub is providing the network. They are definitely in range
and Airport Utility gives me the option to switch to one of them as an
alternative network to the new Sky one. However, that is not what I want to
do. At least I don't think so. Does anyone have any experience of using
Airport Express base stations with Sky hubs? On the Sky users forums there are
conflicting accounts of people succeeding and failing to connect the Airport
Express units. Currently I am certainly in the failing category. The
extending of the WiFi network is not an issue anymore, rather I would like to
get Airtunes to work again with my stereo (the iMac and stereo are on opposite
sides of the house). I still have the Thomson router provided by O2 so I
suppose I could swap the Sky one for the Thomson one? Ideally I'd like to keep
using the Sky hub as it seems to be pumping out a pretty good signal. I
understand there's the possibility of replacing the Sky hub with the newer
Airport Express but I need a Wireless Access Point to enable the printer to
work on the network. I also still have two powerline adapters.

Apologies again for the length of the message but if anyone is kind enough to
respond to it I figured it would make sense to divulge as much information as
possible.

Thanks.
