Ditto. We used to have fun with these too. Pretending to be looking at the screen they were describing and saying we couldn't find the windows button on the keyboard. Partway through we asked them where they were, what they were going to do for their holidays and what shoe size they were. Always worth asking what IP address they detected the error messages coming from. That one isn't in their script. In a way I miss those now we've installed a TrueCall box - www.truecall.co.uk - and don't get any junk calls as they all hang up when intercepted by it.

Ranulph, I have had the same call several times. The guy wanted to "repair" my PC by operating the cursor from his machine. I hung up. They have called a few times since but I just hang up.

I was just phoned by someone with an Indian accent claiming to be from Microsoft, and to want to help me fix my computer. Apparently I have error messages that have been being sent to Microsoft for the art 2 months, and have paid no attention to their emails.

I asked for proof: a telephone switchboard number, and a full employee name, but I was told that I didn't want his help and was playing with him. Then he cut off.

I have no sea what this was. I do not use windows, but I do, when necessary, use Office (and I also use Skype).

My guess is that this was a scam. I wonder if anyone else has had such an approach. It might be sensible to be careful of this sort of thing. As far as I'm aware, I've not been sending out bad messages (apart from one I warned you about some months ago), and I have not been receiving warnings.
