that has to be one of the most useless 'tip' articles I've ever read! It does solve the problem asked here but it doesn't do much for the one they claim to be talking about.

If you do want to retain particular archives, the only way to keep track of them is by date (which they neglect to mention). But I would move the backups somewhere else, back up the iPhone on iTunes. If it works ok, then delete the old backups. If not, then we have to think harder about it;)
