Keychain in mavericks is very similar to 1Password. Before Mavericks, your
keychain held all your system/safari passwords etc per computer and didn't
synchronise them anywhere, so you could say that the built in functionality
of Mac OSX has caught up to 1password to a degree. Safari now suggests
strong passwords and can store credit cards for use for example. some
features like the random password generator has always been there in
keychain since mac osx 10.0 but never really front and center.

1Password will support some features that keychain probably never will...
example browser fill in support for safari firefox and chrome. now theres
no need to always use safari because thats the one that has all my
passwords saved in it.

Other features keychain supports that 1Password probably never will...
example the password to a shared drive on a network drive or NAS, wifi
keys and any smime email encryption private keys and server certificates.

Where 1Password absolutely comes into its own is if you have more than one
computer, or if you share your computer with other people and need to share
certain passwords with people without sharing ALL of your passwords with
these people.

Another feature I really like about 1Password is when you fill in a
password in a form it doesn't leave it in the clipboard, so someone who
uses the computer after you cant sneakily come along and press command+c to
see what your super strong password is... In fact i think 1Password may
actually bypass the clipboard somehow.

I've been using 1Password in earnest since I got Mavericks having been
reluctant to move away from keychain, and I believe I thoroughly know the
ins and outs of both. I purchased the IOS version the other day and its
actually far more mature than the android one and more than just a simple
password reader.

There are of course other password managers out there. Keepass is the one
I would recommend if mac's aren't your primary operating system. Lastpass
is sort of cat-and-mouse with 1Password, but I haven't used that.
