Rewind, to your opening post … that red alert will appear when all of the following are true: 1. HFS Plus journalling does not effectively protect the volume 2. OS X finds the fie system (HFS Plus) to be *dirty* 3. OS X automatically tries, but fails, to repair file system inconsistencies 4. the severity of inconsistencies causes OS X to prevent any further change to the volume (in simple terms: the volume is a mess, adding to or removing from the volume may make the mess worse – don't even risk it). Whilst a subsequent automated repair might have caused the drive (Western Digital My Book Studio) to *appear* to be OK, I should not treat the drive, its disk or its file system as *truly* OK. Please: how old is the drive; how many years has it been in use by you?
