There are millions (billions?) of lines of Objective-C code that will need need 
to be maintained - not least in Apple's own code so it won't be obsolete any 
time yet. However, it's clear that any new Apps from Apple (and I expect, OS X 
and iOS) will be written in Swift so the objective-C train is clearly at the 
station waiting to leave ...

As for the excitement, I for one certainly was and, well, it IS a developer's 
conference! ;-)
