yes, I gave you the short version.
I have an SSD start-up (128 gig) with the Home Directory set to the main
HD. And you've guessed right, the SSD is pretty full. I've ordered a 512
gig one and will hopefully move Home back to the start-up drive (hiving
other stuff off to the existing HDs).
But if THAT doesn't stop it getting sluggish, then I'll add more RAM.
Currently it's not got enough space on the SSD for swap, I think.
The machine is 2.8 GHz Quad-dore Xeon, mid 2010.
