My 17" MacBook Pro is in trouble. On Tuesday it was working ok. Then I
accidently allowed the battery to run down. On Wednesday morning I plugged it
into power and restarted it. The apple logo on grey screen came up as usual
flowed by the rotating icon. And it remained that way for a long time. So I
restarted it again. Same thing. Except this time I left it for an hour. Still
no further progress. So I did a safe boot pressing power and shift. The machine
restarted and the grey horizontal bar appeared. It seemed to be booting ok. The
after about a minute or so the bar disappeared and seconds later the machine
shut down.
So I then restarted using just the power button. However it seems to
automatically go to the safe boot screen for about a minute and then powers
down.
I've repeated this process a number of times and the same thing happens every
time.
Since then I've tried to start using power/ control/command. Tried to reset
the PRAM. Tried to reset the SMC (nothing at all happens)
So at the moment whatever I do the machine starts with a safe boots screen for
approx a minute and then shuts down.
I fear the worst but am hoping for the best. Please can anyone help diagnose
the problem from my description and suggest a course of action
Thanking all in anticipation
Best wishes
Ash
