Happy New Year one and all

I do all app updates OTA on my iPhone and sync to my Mac for backup, every
week or so. Hence, it always surprises me that my Apps in iTunes always
list so very many that need updating? I thought that the updated version
would come across with the sync. But, it seems you have to do a manual
update on the Mac too, to ensure that iTunes Mac also has the most updated
version.

Is that right? Seems odd to me, given the iCloud mantra of everything
always being in sync across devices (don't get me started on Photostream...)

If this is the case, can one turn on auto app update on the Mac, so it
isn't always so far behind in the update cycle?

Many thanks

Adam
