I'd turn off the DMZ, it won't be doing anything for your network. You could always try setting the network name and password on the AirPort Extreme to match that of the netgear router, then the iPad should automatically join whichever base station has the strongest signal. Failing that, switch off the wifi on the netgear and just let the AirPort Extreme handle it
